Job summary

Orlando Health is seeking an Echo / Vascular Sonographer I to perform diagnostic cardiology and vascular imaging under supervision. This role supports cardiologists by acquiring high-quality images and documenting findings for interpretation and intervention.

You will operate ultrasound equipment, ensure patient safety, and participate in quality control while coordinating with the healthcare team to deliver patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Must hold and maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must be registered in fetal echocardiography or cardiac/vascular sonography per ARDMS/CCI guidelines within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and invasive cardiology/vascular ultrasound diagnostics and equipment operation.
  • Performs routine assignments following established guidelines and receives direction from senior staff.
  • Operates equipment and analyzes images to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Maintains patient safety and adheres to regulatory standards while delivering quality care.
  • Participates in quality control tasks and assists with training of students and junior staff.

Position Summary

ECHO / VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER I

Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology and/or vascular sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director.

ECHO/Vascular Sonographer is a highly specialized medical professional who uses ultrasound technology to image the heart (echocardiography) and blood vessels. They assist cardiologists by identifying heart defects, valve issues, and vascular diseases like blood clots and blockages.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Performs routine assignments using existing procedure guidelines.
  • Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from more senior level sonographers.
  • Uses prescribed guidelines or policies in analyzing situations.
  • Has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the job.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.
  • Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
  • Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
  • Posit patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in supervising student sonographers, orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, and participates in quality and safety initiatives.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Licensure/Certification
    • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
    • Must maintain one of the following:
      • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in fetal echocardiography;
      • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS);
      • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI);
      • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS);
      • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI);
      • Must be registered through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) guidelines within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Experience Able to perform routine echocardiology exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode echocardiography and/or vascular sonography exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Imaging, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Carotid Ultrasound, Venous Doppler Upper and Lower Extremities, and Arterial Duplex Upper and Lower Extremities. Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate competency within the first six months of hire in performing at least THREE of the following ECHO and/or Vascular exams: 3-D, Strain, Exercise Stress Echocardiography, Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Complex Valve, Watchman, Post Processing, Contrast Studies, Agitated Saline Studies, Transesophageal (TEE), Surgical TEE, Simple Cardiac Shunts, Venous Insufficiency, Visceral, Segmental Physiology Upper Extremity, Access Grafts, Hemodialysis Access, Venous Ablation Procedures, Ultrasound Guidance, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Temporal Artery, or Transcranial Imaging.
