Job summary

Orlando Health in Orlando, FL seeks a Pediatric Echocardiography Sonographer III to perform high-quality echocardiographic studies across pediatric and adult patients, including complex congenital cases. You will collaborate with cardiology teams, nursing staff, and other professionals to ensure precise diagnostics and excellent patient care.

This is a full-time, days position at the Four Corners location, with no on-call or weekend requirements.

Qualifications

  • Meets education/training requirements under ARDMS/CCI guidelines.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Must hold one of: RDMS (fetal echocardiography) or RDCS/RCS/ACS/RCCS.
  • Minimum two years of echocardiography experience.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of echocardiography and vascular exams.

Position Summary

The Pediatric Echocardiography Sonographer III is responsible for performing high-quality echocardiographic studies on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults including those with complex congenital heart disease. This position requires proficiency in both pediatric and adult echocardiography – vascular experience not needed for this role. The sonographer will work collaboratively with pediatric and adult congenital cardiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnostic imaging and exceptional care. This position is for the Four Corners location, Monday – Friday, no call, no weekends, no holidays.

Essential Functions

  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.

  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
  • Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and ensures the information is accurately documented.
  • Positions patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross‑contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation; accurately records verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in supervising student sonographers, training, and orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, and participating in quality and safety initiatives, acting as a department super‑user.
  • Participates in committees related to modality, department, or facility, participates in educational in‑services and complex care programs.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Assist in transporting patients.
  • Follow established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.
  • Assist in clerical duties, such as, but not limited to, printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Maintain well stocked and organized work areas.
  • May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
  • Assist with other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • May be required to work after hours and call shifts as needed.
  • May be required to assist with contrast administration if pertinent to department.
  • May be required to assist with intravenous (IV) insertion and removal for the administration of diagnostic contrast medication if pertinent to department.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Meets education/training required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) guidelines, depending on assigned department.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must maintain one of the following: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in fetal echocardiography; or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).

Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience.
  • Able to perform routine Echocardiography exams including 2‑D, M‑Mode Echocardiography and/or Vascular sonography exams such as 2‑D, M‑Mode Imaging, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Carotid Ultrasound, Venous Doppler Upper and Lower Extremities, and Arterial Duplex Upper and Lower Extremities.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate competency in routinely performing at least ten of the following Echocardiography and/or Vascular ultrasound exams pertinent to department: 3‑D, Strain, Exercise Stress Echocardiography, Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Complex Valve, Watchman, Post Processing, Contrast Studies, Agitated Saline Studies, Transesophageal (TEE), Surgical TEE, Complex Cardiac Shunts, Pericardiocentesis, Single Ventricle, TOF, AVC, TGA, ECMO Cannula Position, Complex Heterotaxy, ASD Septostomy, PDA Closure Cath, Venous Insufficiency, Visceral, Segmental Physiology Upper Extremity, Access Grafts, Hemodialysis Access, Venous Ablation Procedures, Ultrasound Guidance, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Temporal Artery, Transcranial Imaging, Transcranial PFO Evaluation, Transcranial Emboli Detection, Transcranial Vasomotor Reactivity or Thoracic Bow Hunter’s Syndrome.
