Job Summary and Qualifications

The Echo/Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist performs physician-ordered diagnostic cardiac exams, including echocardiograms, TEEs, carotid imaging, tilt-table testing, and related procedures, following hospital standards. Responsibilities include handling equipment, documenting results, and communicating with the care team.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Registry eligible for RDCS/RDMS-FE (ARDMS) or RCS (CCI).

Effective 01/01/2013, candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Associate’s degree in a related health field plus one year of ultrasound experience.
  • Graduate from an accredited sonography program.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus six months of ultrasound experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sonography or vascular tech.
  • Current RCS, RCCS, or RVS certification.
  • High school diploma plus two years of ultrasound experience.
  • Non-accredited program graduate with clinical training.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with ARDMS or CCI, or obtain within 12 months if eligible.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Obtain physician orders, prioritize STAT exams, and explain procedures to patients.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment, ensure maintenance and cleaning.
  • Perform echocardiograms, TEEs, carotid imaging, and tilt-table tests with proficiency.
  • Assist with patient preparation and monitoring during procedures.
  • Maintain accurate reports and documentation.
  • Follow safety and hospital policies, report unsafe conditions.

Additional functions include taking call, supporting PACS system, ordering supplies, and supporting hospital safety and conduct policies.
