Job Summary and Qualifications

The Echo/Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist performs physician-ordered diagnostic cardiac exams under the supervision of the Non-Invasive Cardiology Manager. Responsibilities include performing echocardiograms, TEEs, carotid imaging, tilt-table testing, and related exams following hospital standards. The role involves technical operation of diagnostic equipment, documentation, and communication with the healthcare team.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Registry eligible for RDCS/RDMS-FE from ARDMS or RCS from CCI.

Effective 01/01/2013, new hires must meet one of the following:

  • Completion of a relevant associate's degree or allied health program plus one year of ultrasound experience.
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited program with ARDMS or RCS eligibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree with six months of ultrasound experience.
  • Bachelor’s in sonography or vascular technology.
  • Current RCS, RCCS, or RVS certification through CCI.
  • High school diploma or GED plus two years of ultrasound experience.
  • Graduate of a non-accredited program with one year of training.

Minimum Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with CCI and ARDMS in appropriate specialties.
  • New hires must obtain required registries within 12 months if eligible.
Essential Job Functions
  • Obtain signed physician orders, prioritize STAT exams, and ensure patient consent and understanding.
  • Operate and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment, maintain documentation, and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Perform adult and pediatric echocardiograms, stress tests, TEEs, carotid imaging, and other specialized exams with technical proficiency.
  • Assist with tilt-table testing, prepare patients, and monitor during procedures.
  • Maintain all reports and data according to hospital policies.
  • Perform high-level disinfection of equipment.
Additional Functions
  • Participate in call rotations and support system disaster recovery.
  • Support PACS system and order supplies.
  • Adhere to safety, ethical standards, and hospital policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
