The ECG Technician performs diagnostic testing including, but not limited to, electrocardiograms, cardiac stress testing, and 24-hour Holter monitoring for patients of all ages. This position requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact. Qualifications
  • Completion of Basic ECG Interpretation course or equivalent, or completed 1 year of college, or 6 months prior ECG experience preferred
  • CPR Certification to be obtained after employment
  • Computer experience preferred
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
Responsibilities

The ECG Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains all patient files and departmental log sheets in proper order
  • Participates in departmental/institutional Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)
  • Performs diagnostic testing and procedures
  • Logs, records, transcribes, charts, distributes, and/or posts test results after physician review and interpretation
  • Processes reports and associated charges via information systems according to policies and procedures
  • Assists ECG management service clients in obtaining routine and stat interpretations
  • Performs regular equipment evaluations and maintenance, including defibrillator checks and emergency cart checks according to established policies
  • The ECG Technician reports to the Director
  • This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information.
  • Frequent exposure to electrical shock risks when plugging/unplugging equipment
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis, Herpes, Tuberculosis, CMV, Upper Respiratory Infections, Blood-Borne Pathogens, and other infectious materials as defined by OSHA
  • Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Occasionally exposed to sights and smells associated with blood, burnt flesh, incontinence, respirator use, and surgical environments
  • Subject to frequent interruptions during office duties
  • Daily exposure to disinfectants when cleaning equipment
  • Occasional work with very sick and uncooperative neonates and children
  • Must be able to work various shifts and wear appropriate safety protective clothing when required
