Purpose of Position
Under supervision, and in accordance with standardized procedures, operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of electrical currents emanating from the heart muscle for use in the diagnosis of heart ailments. Performs related work.
Major Duties
- Subject to medical authority, prepares and positions patient for electrocardiograph test.
- Attaches electrodes to specific areas of patient’s body, as required.
- Turns on machine and rotates switches to obtain tracing of impulses from various parts of the heart.
- Identifies section of tracings by pressing a marker button to signify electrode positions.
- Notes irregularities in recording process and reports malfunctioning of equipment to avoid serious damage.
- Maintains records and files of tracings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a Senior High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and one year experience as an Electrocardiograph Technician in an approved hospital or in the office of a recognized Cardiologist; or,
- A satisfactory equivalent.
