Job Description

Job Title: ECE Support Staff (Substitute)

Reports To: Child Development Coordinator/Instructor

To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Create and maintain an environment for children that provides choices and variety appropriate to their development potential - indoors and out.
   • Generate activities to promote the age appropriate, physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional and creative development of the children present.
   • Arrange indoor/outdoor activity time, quiet/active time, supervised free choice/teacher directed activities, individual, small group and large group opportunities, and small/large muscle development activities.
   • Design activities, which enhance development of self‑help skills, independence and a sense of responsibility.
   • Organize time and activities, which will provide for the basic needs of children for food, rest, toileting, body movement and adjustment to difficult situations, such as parental separation and fatigue.
   • Provide opportunity for each child to individually interact with an understanding and supportive adult.
   • Set up opportunities, weather permitting, for each child to spend some portion of every day outside.
2. Compose and prepare weekly lesson plans to be approved by the Child Development Coordinator.
3. Supervise and maintain the daily operation of equipment and materials in assigned room.
4. Compile market orders and shop for center supplies.
5. Develop and implement a parent involvement program approved by the Child Development Coordinator.
6. Review a progress file on each child with teachers on periodical basis.
7. Supervise high school students fulfilling lab hours.
8. Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
