Job summary

West Hoke Elementary seeks an Exceptional Children Extend 1 Teacher to provide direct special education instruction and develop IEPs for students with disabilities. This full-time role requires collaboration with the principal, teachers, and families to implement individualized plans and monitor progress.

The position reports to the designated principal, with a salary per the NC State Salary Schedule. Immediate starting date; 10-month term; Exempt status.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Strong understanding of curriculum in special education.
• Experience or familiarity with behavior management strategies.
• Knowledge of referral and placement procedures for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement instructional plans aligned with the school and system curricular goals and students’ IEPs.
• Develop and update IEPs using diagnostic information and progress data.
• Provide direct special education instruction to identified students.
• Use varied teaching methods and adapt materials to meet student needs.
• Create Classroom Management Plans and monitor student behavior and progress.
• Communicate with parents about student progress and collaborate with caregivers and staff.
• Maintain student records per NC procedures and comply with state/federal rules.
