Job summary

Wilkes County Schools in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support classroom instruction, provide one-on-one help to students, and assist the lead teacher with clerical tasks.

Position offers a comprehensive benefits package and a local 5% salary supplement. Experience with special needs students and ability to manage behavior are valued. This is a full-time, on-site role.

Qualifications

• Teacher assistants must hold one of the following qualifications.
• A 2 year degree.
• A minimum of 48 semester hours of college coursework.
• WorkKeys assessments in reading, writing, and math with a bronze passing score (level 3).
• CDL with P/S endorsements or eligible to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
• Monitors safety and student well-being; supports independence.
• Maintains classroom discipline and records incidents.
• Provides one-on-one and small group instructional support.
• Performs clerical duties and maintains student progress records.
• Assists with supervision and transportation as needed.
