Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
• Must be licensed in Special Education/General Curriculum (88091) or eligible for licensure.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and present instruction in various styles to help students with disabilities learn subject matter and skills toward individual goals.
• Develop and implement instructional plans compatible with school and system-wide goals and the student’s IEP.
• Develop IEPs for students with disabilities; implement and update IEPs based on diagnostic information.
• Provide direct special education instruction to identified students.
• Use a variety of teaching methods and adapt materials as needed.
• Monitor student behavior, maintain discipline, and teach appropriate behavioral strategies; restrain when necessary; report restraints.
• Assist disabled students with personal and self-help needs.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress via periodic progress reports.
• Serve as case coordinator for assigned students; consult with caregivers and parents to meet needs.
• Maintain student records in compliance with NC procedures for students with disabilities; comply with state and federal statutes.
• Treat all students fairly; interact effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and the community.
• Engage in professional development and demonstrate growth.
• Operate classroom tools and equipment; handle necessary physical tasks as required.
• Perform other related work as required.
