Job Title: Field Director, Medical Science Liaison (East) – Oncology

Location: Eastern United States (Remote with field travel)

Reports to: Senior Director / VP, Medical Affairs

Position Summary:

The Field Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Oncology, is responsible for leading and managing a team of field-based MSLs across the Eastern United States. This role will ensure alignment with medical strategy, drive scientific engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs), and support the strategic objectives of the Medical Affairs team in the oncology therapeutic area. The ideal candidate is a strategic, collaborative, and scientific leader with strong oncology expertise and field medical experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Oncology MSLs across the Eastern U.S.
  • Ensure consistent, compliant, and effective scientific exchange with KOLs, HCPs, and stakeholders.
  • Align field medical activities with the broader medical and brand strategies.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including Clinical Development, Medical Communications, Regulatory, Commercial, and Market Access teams.
  • Monitor field insights and trends to inform internal strategy and medical planning.
  • Oversee field metrics, territory alignment, and resource allocation to optimize team impact.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and continuous training of MSLs.
  • Foster a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, and professional development.
  • Represent the field medical team at internal and external scientific meetings, conferences, and advisory boards.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with at least 3 years in an MSL leadership role.
  • Strong background in oncology, with preference for experience in solid tumors or hematologic malignancies.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing remote field-based teams.
  • Deep understanding of the medical affairs function, KOL engagement, and clinical trial landscape.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% within the Eastern U.S. region.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience launching oncology products or indications.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced or startup/biotech environment.
  • Familiarity with medical CRM platforms and digital engagement tools.
