Job Duration and Hours

Needed Spring through early Winter, not exceeding 1,030 hours total.

Introduction

Maintainers

Responsibilities include maintenance and operation of DEEP boat launches, dams, managed lands, and facilities. Tasks include mowing, trimming, cleaning, custodial work, routine equipment maintenance, litter pickup, and painting. May involve working in adverse weather, heavy lifting, and operating construction equipment such as sawmills, brush cutters, woodchippers, tractors, and medium-duty vehicles. Skills in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, grounds maintenance, and fire crew work are desirable. Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.

Selection Process
  • Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by the hiring supervisor around March/April 2025.
  • Employment is contingent upon completing all new-hire paperwork, including ID and documents for Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9).
  • A background check covering employment, criminal, and motor vehicle records is required.
  • DEEP promotes a safe, diverse, and nondiscriminatory environment. Mandatory online training on safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment must be completed before starting work.

Job Purpose

Perform seasonal tasks related to maintenance and operation of DEEP facilities as a limited duration employee.

Examples of Duties

Maintenance of boat launches, dams, managed lands, including mowing, trimming, cleaning, custodial work, equipment maintenance, litter pickup, and painting. May involve working in adverse weather and heavy lifting. Use of construction equipment, operating tractors, and performing carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, grounds maintenance, fire crew duties, and more. Must be at least 18 and hold a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to follow instructions.

Special Requirements
  • Must perform emergency first aid if supervising recreational units, with required certification.
  • May need to possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license, pesticide license, college training, EMT certification, or lifeguard certification depending on the position.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have adequate physical strength and stamina.
  • Lifeguard roles require demonstrating ARC waterfront lifeguarding skills.
