Job summary

Griffith Company is seeking an experienced Earthwork Modeler to join the Southern Region team. You will perform earthwork modeling, quantity takeoffs, and develop reliable earthwork models and analyses to support bid accuracy and project planning.

You will interpret civil drawings, grading plans, and geotechnical reports, validate survey data, and use GPS/mapping tech. Proficiency with Agtek or Carlson and Excel is required; collaboration with estimators and field teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years earthwork modeling and quantity takeoffs experience.
  • Experience with grading plans, surveys, and terrain models.
  • Experience in heavy civil construction estimating/bidding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform earthwork modeling and quantity takeoffs for civil, site development, roadway, highway, and heavy civil construction projects.
  • Create accurate cut/fill analyses, mass haul plans, and earthwork quantity reports.
  • Interpret and analyze civil construction drawings, grading plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Review and validate survey data, existing ground models, and digital terrain models.
  • Utilize GPS machine control systems and modeling technology to support earthwork operations.
  • Use drone, LiDAR, and other reality-capture technologies for existing-condition modeling and quantity verification.
  • Analyze site preparation, excavation, embankment, grading, and related construction activities.
  • Identify design conflicts, quantity discrepancies, and potential value-engineering opportunities.
  • Create exhibits, graphics, and visualizations to support bid reviews and project planning.
  • Coordinate closely with estimators, project managers, field operations personnel, and other project stakeholders.
  • Present earthwork models, quantity analyses, and findings to project teams and leadership.
  • Maintain accurate project files, models, calculations, and supporting documentation.

We are looking for an experienced Earthwork Modeler to join our Southern Region team. This position is responsible for performing earthwork quantity calculations, analyzing grading plans, supporting field teams, and providing estimating support for competitive bids. The Earthwork Modeler plays an important role in bid accuracy, project planning, and the development of reliable earthwork models and quantity analyses.

Essential Functions

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of technical training and relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience performing earthwork modeling and quantity takeoffs for civil, site development, roadway, highway, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience creating accurate cut/fill analyses, mass haul plans, and earthwork quantity reports.
  • Experience reviewing survey data, existing ground models, and digital terrain models.
  • Experience supporting estimating, bidding, or field operations within the heavy civil construction industry preferred.

  • Proficiency with Agtek, Carlson, or similar earthwork modeling platforms.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, grading plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Knowledge of construction methods related to site preparation, excavation, embankment, and grading.
  • Understanding of GPS machine control systems.
  • Familiarity with drone, LiDAR, and other reality-capture technologies.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other estimating-related software.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify design conflicts and quantity discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with estimators, project managers, field operations personnel, and executives.
  • Ability to create clear exhibits, graphics, reports, and visualizations.

Annual Salary Range: $71,000 - $120,000. Depending on qualifications and experience.
