Job summary

Griffith Company in San Luis Obispo seeks an experienced Estimator to develop accurate, timely estimates for private and public works. You will lead bid efforts, coordinate with divisions, and mentor junior staff while ensuring compliance with project specs and schedules.

The role requires at least 5+ years in estimating, a Bachelor's degree preferred, and proficiency in major estimating software. This is a full-time on-site position with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combos of training and experience.
• Experience leading bids up to $75M.
• Strong time management and attention to detail.

• Proficiency in reading plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, soils reports, and site conditions to determine scope.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and prepare pre-bid RFIs.
• Solicit subcontractors and vendors before bid date.
• Coordinate scope with Griffith divisions and subcontractors.
• Prepare estimates by complete takeoffs and maintain backup files.
• Interface with Owner and other contractors for cost data.
• Assist startup/estimate handoff and budgeting.
• Monitor post-bid dates and contract procurement.
• Lead bid closings and mentor estimating staff.
• Assist Chief Estimator with Bid2Win maintenance.
• Champion continuous improvement and pursue alternative delivery.
• Other duties as assigned.

We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join our Central Region team's growing operations in San Luis Obispo. This position is responsible for the development of accurate and timely estimates for both private and public works projects.

Essential Functions

• Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
• Attend pre-bid meetings.
• Preparation of pre-bid RFI's prior to specification cutoff date.
• Solicit subcontractors and vendors prior to bid date to ensure coverage of scope of work.
• Assist in coordination of scope of work with other Griffith Division and subcontractors.
• Preparation of estimates by calculating complete take off of scope of work.
• Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimating figures.
• Interface with Owner and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
• Assist with project startup / estimate handoff and budgeting.
• Help monitor post bid submission dates towards contract procurement.
• Follow awarded contracts as assigned. May include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring material, monitoring progress, cost/budget, revenue, etc.
• Lead bid closings.
• Mentor, guide and train estimating staff.
• Assist Chief Estimator with B2W maintenance and updates.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in alternative delivery pursuits.
• Other duties as assigned

Education

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree would be preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

Experience

5+ years of Estimating experience. Minimum 1 year of field experience.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills And Ability

• Ability to lead estimates for bids up to $75,000,000.
• Must have a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills
• Must have high attention to detail.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and computer skills
• Develop a thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.
• Become advanced in Bid2Win Estimating software.
• Become proficient in Agtek, SureTrak, Primavera P6 and MS Project.
• Become proficient in Blue Beam and Sketch up.
• Become advanced in reading plans and specifications
• Become advanced in takeoffs.
• Must have an understanding of construction sequencing and project staffing requirements.
• Must be familiar with Contract Accounting
• Must have an understanding of critical path.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Annual Salary Range: $80,000 - $150,000 (depending on level of experience and qualifications).
