Job summary

Griffith Company in Bakersfield seeks an experienced Estimator for its Central Region operations. The role develops accurate, timely estimates for private and public works, leading bid preparations and coordinating with subs and vendors.

Requires strong takeoff skills, mastery of estimating software, and a solid fundamentals in contracts and cost control. Minimum 5+ years estimating, 1 year field experience, bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and site conditions to determine scope of work.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and prepare pre-bid RFIs.
• Solicit subcontractors and vendors prior to bid date to ensure coverage of scope of work.
• Prepare estimates by full takeoffs of scope of work and maintain backup files.
• Interface with Owner and other contractors to provide cost data and project feasibility.
• Lead bid closings and mentor estimating staff.
• Assist Chief Estimator with software maintenance and updates.

We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join our Central Region team's operations in Bakersfield. This position is responsible for the development of accurate and timely estimates for both private and public works projects.

Essential Functions

• Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
• Attend pre-bid meetings.
• Preparation of pre-bid RFI's prior to specification cutoff date.
• Solicit subcontractors and vendors prior to bid date to ensure coverage of scope of work.
• Assist in coordination of scope of work with other Griffith Division and subcontractors.
• Preparation of estimates by calculating complete take off of scope of work.
• Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimating figures.
• Interface with Owner and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
• Assist with project startup / estimate handoff and budgeting.
• Help monitor post bid submission dates towards contract procurement.
• Follow awarded contracts as assigned. May include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring material, monitoring progress, cost/budget, revenue, etc.
• Lead bid closings.
• Mentor, guide and train estimating staff.
• Assist Chief Estimator with B2W maintenance and updates.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in alternative delivery pursuits.
• Other duties as assigned

Education

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree would be preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

Experience

5+ years of Estimating experience. Minimum 1 year of field experience.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills And Ability

• Ability to lead estimates for bids up to $75,000,000.
• Must have a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills
• Must have high attention to detail.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and computer skills
• Develop a thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.
• Become advanced in Bid2Win Estimating software.
• Become proficient in Agtek, SureTrak, Primavera P6 and MS Project.
• Become proficient in Blue Beam and Sketch up.
• Become advanced in reading plans and specifications
• Become advanced in takeoffs.
• Must have an understanding of construction sequencing and project staffing requirements.
• Must be familiar with Contract Accounting
• Must have an understanding of critical path.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Annual Salary Range: $80,000 - $150,000 (depending on level of experience and qualifications).
