Job description

Earth Sciences Instructor Pool-Part-Time

Special Instructions Summary

This recruitment will remain active for a period of one year, from the position opening date. If there is no longer a need to fill, the position may be closed sooner, and applicants will be notified. This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, and temporary faculty assignments on an as‑needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part‑time faculty.

Classification Information: Classification Title: Earth Sciences Instructor Pool-Part-Time. Salary Range: $1391.74 – $1527.30 per lecture unit rate; $1391.74 – $1527.30 per lab parity unit rate; $1113.42 – $1221.77 per lab unit rate. Salary Schedule Information: Column Range: Column 1 – Column 3 (depending on education).

Job Description

The Earth Sciences Department/Natural Sciences Division is seeking adjunct instructors to teach a variety of courses ranging from geology to meteorology to climate science. Most courses are intended for general education non‑major students with a small portion of Earth Science or Geology majors. The department has a variety of equipment and samples for geology and oceanography to use for demonstrations or hands‑on experiences. Currently lecture courses are available with the possibility of lab and field courses in the future.

Special Requirements

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If the degree award date is not posted on the transcript, your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration. Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts. All degrees and coursework used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions. Evaluations of foreign degrees and/or coursework are required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology OR Bachelor’s in geology AND Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry
  • OR possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area
  • OR the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee
  • Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
