Availability for early pre-dawn hours is required. The role involves producing and editing news copy, posting to newsroom social platforms, gathering audio from events, and supporting anchors with voicers and wrap reports. Hourly, full-time position with benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong news writing and story selection skills.
  • Must know how to assemble stories in a newscast in a logical order.
  • Must be willing to work early, pre-dawn hours.
  • Strong social media skills including email, writing/posting for Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram.
  • Excellent writing and editing ability; excellent grammar.
  • Strong time management skills; adept at setting priorities and managing deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable and up to date with local, regional, and national trends.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in media production (primarily audio) and broadcast systems.
  • 3+ years’ experience in on‑air journalism in smaller market or college station.

Responsibilities

  • Write clear, concise news copy.
  • Assemble stories into newscast under intense deadline pressure.
  • Produce, edit and write content for 24/7 Newswire.
  • Post news and video content to newsroom social media platforms.
  • Gather audio from press conferences, live events and partner TV stations.
  • Produce short‑form reports (voicers/wraps) for anchors on the following shift.
  • May be called on to anchor breaking news reports as needed.
  • General newsroom responsibilities and duties as assigned.
