  • Knowledge of classroom quality assessment tools, NC child care standards.
  • Traveling regularly within Cumberland and surrounding counties.

Job Overview

The Early Care & Education Coach provides relationship-based coaching, technical assistance, and training to early childhood programs in a multi-county service area, including Cumberland County and select surrounding counties, to strengthen classroom quality, instructional practice, and program compliance. This position partners with teachers, administrators, and early learning staff to support continuous quality improvement through observation, feedback, modeling, resource alignment, and adult learning strategies.

This role may also support NC Pre-K classrooms and site administrators, particularly in areas related to classroom quality, implementation of program standards, and site-level readiness for monitoring. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable early childhood professional who can build trust with providers, translate standards into practical action, and support measurable improvement in early learning environments.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized and group coaching to child care teachers, administrators, and early care professionals using evidence-based coaching and technical assistance practices.
  • Conduct classroom observations, site visits, and quality assessments to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in learning environments, teacher-child interactions, and instructional practices.
  • Support licensed child care programs with quality improvement planning, classroom enhancement, and alignment with applicable licensing and quality standards.
  • May provide technical assistance to NC Pre-K classrooms and site leaders to reinforce program standards, strengthen classroom practices, and support readiness for site monitoring.
  • May assist new or developing NC Pre-K sites with understanding program requirements, classroom expectations, and implementation of approved tools, platforms, and practices.
  • Use assessment and observation data to help providers establish goals, monitor progress, and sustain improvements over time.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for early childhood educators based on identified needs, emerging issues, and program priorities.
  • Support providers with corrective action, compliance improvement, and related training needs when applicable.
  • Assist teachers and site leaders with approved early learning and child assessment platforms, curriculum-related tools, and other instructional support systems used by funders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of site visits, coaching activities, assessments, monitoring support, and provider progress in required databases and records systems.
  • Participate in outreach and recruitment efforts to increase provider engagement in coaching, training, and quality support services.
  • Build collaborative relationships with child care programs, licensing representatives, and internal teams to coordinate support and promote consistent service delivery.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field.
  • Level 11 or higher Early Educator Certification required.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in early childhood education. Experience in licensed child care settings preferred.
  • Experience providing coaching, mentoring, technical assistance, or training to adult learners preferred.
  • Knowledge of classroom quality assessment tools, child development, developmentally appropriate practice, and North Carolina child care standards required.
  • Experience supporting NC Pre-K classrooms, program implementation, or site monitoring activities strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret standards and assessment information and translate them into practical coaching and improvement strategies.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, databases, and other electronic documentation systems.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license and ability to travel regularly throughout Cumberland County and surrounding counties for site visits, monitoring support, meetings, and events.
