Job summary

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit seeks a Teacher Assistant - Early Intervention to provide classroom support for children ages 3-5. This full-time role requires using direct-instruction programs and online learning tools, and collaborating with teachers and families across Montgomery County.

Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED (PA credential within probation), 2-year degree or 48 credits, or a BA preferred, with strong data skills and ability to travel to multiple classrooms.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; willing to obtain PA Paraeducator Credential within probationary period
• Associate degree or higher OR 2 years post-secondary OR 48 credits; bachelor degree preferred
• Background in special education preferred
• Experience with students with severe/complex behavioral issues preferred
• Must handle confidential information and work with students with disabilities
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to locations across Montgomery County
• Visual acuity to read materials; auditory acuity to hear and speak clearly
• Works well in a team and handle interruptions professionally
• Able to read/write and do simple computations; CPI/Safety Cares training required
• Able to work independently and exercise good judgement with student interaction
• Original certificates of clearance (State Police, Child Abuse Registry, PDE FBI)

Responsibilities

• Use direct-instruction programs and online learning systems.
• Support student behavior per teacher direction and behavior plans.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.
• Assist teacher with daily lesson prep and materials.
• Maintain classroom organization and prepare materials/bulletin boards.
• Assist with 1:1 student support as assigned.
• Present a positive image of the IU and its programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
