Base pay range

$30.00/hr - $50.00/hr

Building Blocks is currently seeking an Early Education Music Teacher to join our teams in Monroe and Wilton. Building Blocks is a network of 9 preschools and early learning centers across Connecticut. Whether you have been teaching music for years or are just getting started and would like to bring your talents to early education, Building Blocks may be a great fit!

This is an independent contractor position/10-99 employee.

Prerequisites:
  • Education in music and musical proficiency required. Degree related to music or education preferred.
  • Proficiency in guitar or other portable instrument required.
  • Previous experience working with children required. Practicum, internship, or volunteer sites accepted as experience.
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites in MA and NH regularly and reliably.
  • Excellent organizational and initiative-taking skills.
  • Ability to self-direct as well as work as part of a team.
  • Great communication and listening skills.
  • Willingness to give and receive feedback professionally.
  • Adaptable, creative, and high energy.
General Duties:
  • Travel to a personal roster of schools, sometimes more than one per day, to lead weekly music and movement classes based on the Musical Sprouts curriculum. Class sizes range from 6-20 students, visiting 6 to 12 classrooms daily.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead music and movement activities for children ages 0-5 for a minimum of 20 minutes (Infants and Toddlers) and 30 minutes (Preschool and Kindergarten).
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers during music classes.
  • Prepare for classes by reviewing curriculum, gathering props, and practicing songs.
  • Coordinate with school leaders on visits, schedules, and feedback.
  • Maintain personal inventory of instruments, sanitize and be responsible for them.
Team Duties:
  • Collaborate with other music teachers to plan and align lessons.
  • Lead occasional training sessions for teachers on integrating music into classrooms.
  • Attend professional development and propose outside learning opportunities.
  • Lead large group music events during family open-houses or special occasions a few times a year.
