Job summary

Mercy Health, at the Bon Secours Richmond Health Source Child Care Center, seeks a Teacher I to plan and implement curriculum, supervise the classroom, and assess developmental needs. You will maintain daily records, communicate with families, and uphold safety policies while adapting activities for various ages.

Responsibilities include behavior management, documenting incidents, and coordinating parent conferences with portfolios. Licensing background checks will be completed as required.

Qualifications

• Endorsement or bachelors degree in a child related field; OR 3 months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following education backgrounds
• One-year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours; OR
• A child development credential by an organization listed in the Code of Virginia OR
• A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization
• 6 months of supervised programmatic experience
• Within six months before being promoted or beginning work a minimum of 24 hours of training shall be completed in child development, playground safety, health and safety issues and preventing and reporting child abuse and neglect.
• Incumbent must successfully meet the requirements indicated in the Code of Virginia and obtain and successfully complete the required background checks per the Code of Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Record childrens daily activities and maintain daily student records
• Maintain open communication with parents
• Implement positive, supportive methods of behavior management
• Safeguard childrens wellness and safety and report incidents
• Obtain certification and administer medications and document same
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the children
• Maintain classroom bulletin boards and parent information areas
• Conduct parent teacher conferences. Maintain childrens portfolios
