The Child Development Center at Keene State College invites applications for a preschool Early Childhood Teacher to work in partnership with the center staff to achieve the highest standards of quality for children, families and college students. This is a full-time flex year benefited position (August-June).
Under the guidance of the Director of the Child Development Center, the successful candidate will plan and implement a best practices early childhood program for children, families, and college students at the Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong social and collaborative skills, and will have a keen understanding of an emergent, play-based curriculum, and an appreciation for the benefits gained therefrom.
The Child Development Center (CDC), located on the Keene State College campus in Elliot Center, is a demonstration early childhood education site for Keene State College students, practicing professionals, and young children and their families. The Center strives to model best practices by offering nurturing environments where young children are encouraged to explore, to be creative, to cultivate positive relationships, to experience the joy of learning, and to develop a sense of community.
The CDC is a dynamic learning community dedicated to providing excellent practical experiences for students studying to enter the teaching profession, or a related profession, with young children. Undergraduate and graduate students are offered supervised experiences under the guidance of early childhood professionals, in the direct education and care of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Through collaboration, the CDC staff contributes to an educational environment that encourages professionalism, growth, and diversity. Salary is commensurate with experience, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off. This position is part of the Keene State College Staff Association (KSCSA).
Duties/Responsibilities
- Plan and implement best practices developmentally appropriate curriculum, including diversity and anti-bias education. Support young children with kindness and respect. Model appropriate and nurturing child guidance. Observe, assess and record children’s progress and maintain children’s records, including for special education. Foster positive relationships with team members, children, families and college students.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming and engaging classroom environment that reflects best practice and models excellence. Mentor undergraduate students and assist in their training and supervision.
- Engage with each family, maintain on-going communication with classroom families including daily communications, regular written communication, planning and conducting parent conferences and parent education events.
- Meet monthly with the CDC Director, complete the annual evaluations process. Attend CDC staff meetings, family events, college student meetings, and participate on committees and special projects. Attain NH Credential within 6 months and train in Pyramid Model as guided by professional development expectations. Follow and uphold all procedures and policies of the Child Development Center and Keene State College. Ensure teaching with the most updated professional knowledge and information by attending conferences, workshops and keeping current with course literature. Assume administrative designation in director's absence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, Family Studies, Elementary Education or related field with at least 18 credits in Early Childhood Education, including 3 credits in child development. One year of experience teaching children B-5 years.
- Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to comply with NH Child Care Program Licensing associate teacher requirements, CPR and First Aid training, and background checks.
- Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this position, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Pyramid Model training and experience.
- Experience teaching in a Granite Steps for Quality center or other quality rating improvement system.
- Experience working with young children in a College/University laboratory center.
