Job description

Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

BCPS is seeking a passionate and qualified Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher to support the developmental and educational needs of young children with disabilities. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment that promotes growth in all areas—cognitive, social, emotional, language, and motor skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and deliver individualized instruction based on each child's IEP
• Create a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment
• Collaborate with families, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and general education staff to support student progress
• Support student participation in both general education settings and self-contained classrooms, promoting inclusive practices whenever appropriate
• Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, as necessary
• Assess developmental levels and maintain accurate and up-to-date records
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and goals
• Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood and special education

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
• ZS (Early Childhood Special Education) or ZA (Early Childhood) endorsement with additional Special Education Endorsement required/preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of child development and early intervention strategies
• Experience working with children ages 3-5 with diverse learning needs
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Must meet all of the NCLB qualifications
