Job summary

Penobscot Bay YMCA is seeking a Childcare Director to lead our licensed childcare programs at the Main Branch in Rockport, ME. You will oversee daily operations, staff development, family engagement, enrollment, and regulatory compliance to provide a safe, nurturing environment.

The role requires a degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent, strong leadership, and strong communication. Monday–Friday daytime schedule; full-time exempt with competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; two years of direct childcare experience if using an associate degree.
• Two years of management or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of child development, licensing requirements, and program quality.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee daily operations of the childcare program to ensure high-quality experiences for children and families.
• Supervise, coach, train, and develop childcare staff; provide classroom support as needed.
• Manage enrollment, scheduling, and program operations with accurate record keeping and licensing documentation.
• Develop and monitor program budgets with leadership support; lead staff meetings and trainings.
• Engage families and community partners; oversee outreach and program quality improvements.
