Job summary

YMCA of Portsmouth is seeking a Counselor to help provide a nurturing, stimulating learning environment for young children in the before & after school program. Your enthusiasm and dedication will contribute to the success of our program.

You will support supervision, implement developmentally appropriate activities, engage children, and help maintain safety and positive behavior. Training and development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
• Background checks required before employment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults.
• Able to work on time and at multiple program locations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
• Assist program leaders in preparing developmentally appropriate activities.
• Engage children in meaningful play and learning experiences.
• Support positive behavior guidance and social skills development.
• Communicate with parents, staff, and YMCA leadership.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
