Job Purpose

The Substitute Teacher will work under supervision at designated locations, delivering high-quality early childhood development services, including educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development. Responsibilities include communicating with parents, maintaining records, planning lessons, serving meals, and ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Implement daily classroom lessons per curriculum
  • Supervise children on-site
  • Ensure safety through checks and protocols
  • Prepare and serve meals; maintain food area sanitation
  • Assist children with hygiene and diapering
  • Plan and execute classroom activities
  • Support developmental assessments
  • Lead physical activities
  • Interpret for non-English speaking parents
  • Conduct parent conferences and home visits as needed
  • Maintain attendance and achievement records
  • Support developmental screenings (e.g., DRDP-2015, ASQ)
  • Set up classrooms and maintain supplies
  • Perform diaper changing as needed
  • Support meal service preparations
  • Supervise and coach Teacher Assistants
  • Travel to various locations (minimum 15 miles)
Requirements

Qualifications: Experience in early childhood education, child development, teamwork, interpersonal skills, organization, observation, communication, and basic computer skills.

Experience: Minimum 1 year as a preschool teacher or aide, preferably in Head Start. Must be 18+, have DOJ clearance, and Livescan associated with California licensing.

Education/Permits: Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher, AA degree or higher with 12+ units in ECE, 3 units in Infant/Toddler preferred, CPR/First Aid, valid CA driver’s license, proof of DOJ clearance.

Special Requirements: TB test within a year, immunizations (MMR, Pertussis, Influenza), COVID vaccination, physical exam, legal work authorization, and ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 25 lbs.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Must meet physical demands typical of a preschool environment, including standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 25 lbs, and outdoor supervision. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
