Job summary

Community Action Program for Central Arkansas, Inc. is seeking a Food Service Assistant to support early childhood classrooms and the Migrant & Seasonal programs.

The role includes food preparation, serving meals, and daily cleaning, with opportunities to assist the Food Service Manager and participate in nutrition documentation. The position requires a High School diploma or GED, at least three months in food service, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three months experience in food service.
• Ability to pass tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to use a vehicle for agency travel.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating a warm environment that supports children’s growth and development.
• Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers, and children.
• Assist in daily meal preparation and serving breakfast, snacks, and lunches.
• Daily cleaning of the building and restrooms; clean dishes, vacuum, and trash removal.
• Keep the kitchen area clean, organized, and sanitary, including proper storage of food and supplies; clean fridge/freezer weekly.
• Assist and back up the Food Service Manager in daily food preparation and nutrition documentation.
• Transport food to designated sites as needed.
• Wear non-skid footwear; use cut-resistant gloves when handling knives and cutting tools.
• Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind for parent and community activities.
• Work cooperatively with all classroom/center staff and manage data in designated areas.
• Assist in avoiding fraud and ensuring compliance in designated areas.
