Job summary

Portage Public Schools is seeking a Teacher Assistant - Early Childhood to support classroom instruction at PPS Early Childhood Center. The role collaborates with the lead teacher to implement hands-on activities, monitor student progress, and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include using assessments to inform instruction, coordinating with families, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with district policies and licensing.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in early childhood education or related field preferred.
• CDA credential with preschool emphasis preferred.
• MiLeap or equivalent required training hours and experience.
• CPR/First Aid/AED training or ability to obtain.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with district staff and the public.
• Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with creating and implementing lesson plans with hands-on activities.
• Support a learning environment focused on student success and development.
• Use student assessment data to inform instruction for groups or individuals.
• Communicate with parents about student progress and involve them in curricular goals.
• Implement PBIS in the classroom and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with lead teacher and classroom team.
• Maintain up-to-date child records and lesson plans.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
