Job summary

The Ann Arbor YMCA seeks an Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher and Director in creating a caring, safe environment for children. You will observe and relay children’s interests, assist in activities, and help maintain routines aligned with the YMCA curriculum.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and at least one year of experience with children; CPR/First Aid preferred. Strong teamwork and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one year experience with children and families.
• CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.
• Experience in a NAEYC accredited program is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility and teamwork are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate activities including art, music, movement, math, science and language.
• Support Lead Teacher and Director in planning and organizing activities and lessons.
• Maintain daily classroom routines and ensure safety of all children.
• Communicate with parents and staff; observe and document children’s interests and progress.
