Job summary

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency in Highland Park, MI is seeking an Early Childhood Assistant to support staff in delivering developmentally appropriate activities using the HighScope Curriculum. This role focuses on direct care and school readiness.

You will help plan daily lessons, maintain a safe environment, observe and document child progress, and assist with screenings and assessments while following licensing rules. A High School Diploma and reliable transportation are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (minimum).
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to communicate and interact with children in a caring, responsive, and nurturing manner.
• Ability to intervene with children’s behaviours in a non-punitive and supportive manner.
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with parents/caregivers.
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing daily lesson plans utilizing the HighScope Curriculum under supervision.
• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for young children and families.
• Provide individualized support and responsive care to children based on their needs.
• Record anecdotal observations and enter data into the COR system.
• Maintain attendance, meal counts, daily logs, and other required records.
