Job summary

Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) offers a five-week paid internship in Chicago, IL or Richardson, TX. The Associate Intern will work with mentors, learn healthcare operations and gain business and technical skills through hands-on projects.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (actuarial science, math, stats, finance, CS or econ), with a 3.0 GPA, and strong Excel and Word/PowerPoint proficiency, available for the full duration of the program.

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree; rising junior in actuarial science, math, statistics, finance, computer science or economics.
• MInimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Available for the full duration of the paid summer program.
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and collaborative mindset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day team activities with research, data gathering, and light analysis under mentor guidance.
• Contribute to a defined summer project with milestones and mentor feedback.
• Attend intern orientation, professional development workshops, and networking events.
• Comply with HIPAA and corporate policies.

Job Summary

This five-week paid internship can be in Chicago, IL or Richardson, TX.

What Are Your Responsibilities?

The Associate Intern is responsible for actively participating in HCSC’s formal internship program that leverages your skills, knowledge, and capabilities while providing exposure to healthcare, business operations, and professional work environments. Working closely with team members and mentors, the Associate Intern will learn key processes, programs, and technologies while supporting departmental projects and initiatives. Through hands‑on experience, professional development opportunities, and cross‑functional collaboration, the Associate Intern will build foundational business and technical skills that support future career success.

• Support day-to-day team activities and contribute to research, data gathering, and light analysis under close mentor guidance.
• Contribute to a defined summer project with structured milestones, regular mentor check‑ins, and manager feedback.
• Attend intern orientation, professional development workshops, and networking events designed for early‑career exploration.
• Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.

What Do You Need to Be Successful?

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.
• Interest in a career in Actuarial Science
• Strong analytical skills
• Practical, developed technical skills, especially Excel and VBA

What Are the Requirements You Must Meet?

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree; rising junior considering a major in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, computer science or economics. Other majors may be considered.
• Graduation date between December 2028 and June 2029
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Available for the full duration of the paid summer program.
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, and a collaborative, learning‑oriented mindset.
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general comfort with virtual collaboration tools.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.

The compensation offered will vary depending on your job‑related skills, education, knowledge, and experience. This role aligns with an annual incentive bonus plan subject to the terms and the conditions of the plan.

Base Pay Range $17.75 - $28.39 Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
