Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, water resources engineering or closely related discipline (required).
  • Advanced degree in related field with coursework or research in water/wastewater treatment, process engineering or hydraulics (preferred).
  • Experience with treatment systems, process calculations, pilot testing, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure design or environmental data evaluation (preferred).
  • Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or willingness to obtain (preferred).
  • Strong technical writing, communication and collaboration skills (required).

Responsibilities

  • Support process engineering evaluations for water, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater treatment systems.
  • Assist with data review, treatment technology screening, and development of engineering recommendations.
  • Support design of water/wastewater conveyance, treatment facilities, site layouts and piping systems.
  • Perform engineering analyses including planning studies, hydraulic modeling, mass balance evaluations and equipment sizing.
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications, calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct fieldwork including sampling, monitoring and contractor coordination.
  • Analyze technical data including GIS datasets and design inputs.
  • Prepare reports, letters, proposals and other client deliverables under guidance.

This role will apply academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world consulting projects related to process engineering, water and wastewater treatment (including municipal and industrial), stormwater management and treatment, and groundwater management/treatment for a diverse national private and public sector client base. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Support process engineering evaluations for water, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater treatment systems.

  • Assist with chemical data review, treatment technology screening, and development of engineering recommendations.

  • Support civil and infrastructure design for water and wastewater conveyance, treatment facilities, site layouts, piping systems, and related project components.

  • Perform engineering analyses such as planning studies, engineering studies, hydraulic modeling, process calculations, mass balance evaluations, equipment sizing, and equipment selection.

  • Assist with the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation for water, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater treatment facilities.

  • Conduct fieldwork associated with design, pilot testing, construction services, system inspections, sampling, monitoring, data collection, and contractor coordination.

  • Analyze engineering and environmental data, including laboratory analytical results, field measurements, treatment performance data, hydraulic information, GIS datasets, and design inputs.

  • Prepare maps, tables, figures, data summaries, design support materials, and visualizations for technical reports and client deliverables.

  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, proposals, construction documents, and other written deliverables under the guidance of senior technical staff.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, scientists, contractors, laboratories, vendors, and clients to support project execution and high-quality deliverables.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while developing consulting, technical writing, problem-solving, project delivery, and client communication skills.

  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.



Education and Licensure


  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline. (required)

  • Advanced degree in chemical, mechanical, environmental, civil, or water resources engineering with coursework or research related to water/wastewater treatment, process engineering, environmental chemistry, or hydraulics. (preferred)

  • Academic, internship, co-op, research, or practical project experience involving treatment systems, process calculations, pilot testing, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure design, or environmental data evaluation. (preferred)

  • Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability and interest to obtain certification. (preferred)



Skills, Experience and Qualifications


  • Academic, internship, co-op, research, or early professional experience in process engineering, water treatment, wastewater treatment, environmental engineering, civil infrastructure, groundwater management, stormwater treatment, or related consulting work. (preferred)

  • Foundational understanding of process engineering principles, water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulics, environmental chemistry, and engineering design fundamentals. (required)

  • Experience or coursework involving treatment technologies, equipment sizing, pumps and piping, hydraulic modeling, mass balances, unit processes, physical and chemical treatment, and biological treatment. (preferred)

  • Interest in applying engineering principles to water/wastewater (municipal and industrial) treatment, groundwater treatment, stormwater treatment, water reuse, conveyance systems, and facility planning or design. (required)

  • Ability to organize, evaluate, and communicate technical data using tools such as Microsoft Excel, GIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling software, statistical tools, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar platforms. (preferred)

  • Experience preparing or supporting engineering drawings, design calculations, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and presentation materials. (preferred)

  • Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, laboratories, contractors, vendors, regulators, and clients. (required)

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, ask thoughtful technical questions, follow quality procedures, and contribute to high-quality consulting deliverables. (required)

  • Willingness to perform fieldwork, including site inspections, sampling, monitoring, pilot testing support, construction observation, equipment checks, and occasional overnight travel. (required)

  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)



This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set, and location.




  • Minimum Salary: $70,520/year / Maximum Salary: $88,150/year (Denver, CO)

  • Minimum Hourly: $35.51/hour / Maximum: $38.54/hour or Minimum Salary: $80,168/year / Maximum Salary: $92,350/year (Costa Mesa, CA, Seattle, WA)
