Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants is seeking an Early-Career Environmental / Water Resources Engineer for our Austin, San Antonio, or Houston offices. You will apply academic knowledge to real-world civil design and water management projects while learning business skills for a successful consulting career.

You will work on hydrologic/hydraulic analyses, stormwater infrastructure, environmental permitting, and monitoring, collaborating with top professionals in the field and contributing to client solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (required).
• Advanced degree in water resources or environmental engineering (preferred).
• EIT certification or ability to obtain within six months (preferred).
• At least 2 years of internship or full-time experience in civil/environmental consulting (preferred).
• Strong interpersonal, technical writing, and communication skills (required).

Responsibilities

• Civil/infrastructure design and site layout.
• Water resources engineering analyses (hydrology and hydraulics) including HEC-HMS/HEC-RAS modeling.
• Fieldwork including surface water evaluations, groundwater sampling, site inspections, and contractor oversight.
• Preparation of technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for civil design and stormwater management.
• Performing engineering computations using computer-based tools and preparing calculation packages.
• Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans and proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Civil/infrastructure design and site layout;
• Water resources engineering analyses such as hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) modeling and design;
• Fieldwork such as surface water evaluations, groundwater sampling, site inspections, civil contractor oversight, and similar tasks;
• Preparation of technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for: civil design, landfill and impoundment design and permitting, site development and grading, water resources engineering/stormwater management, and erosion and sediment controls;
• Performing engineering computations using computer-based technical tools and preparing related calculation packages;
• Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
• Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
• Fieldwork: Up to 30%
• Overnight travel: Up to 20%

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or other applicable discipline. (required)
• Advanced degree in water resources or environmental engineering. (preferred)
• Current Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• At least 2 years of prior internship or full-time experience in civil/environmental consulting or with a civil contractor, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
• Experience performing civil design and site grading. (preferred)
• Experience with relevant engineering software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, EPA SWMM, AutoCAD, ArcView, etc. (preferred)
• Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, and problem-solving skills. (required)
• Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
• Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
