This Opportunity
The WSP Central New England Team is seeking a motivated Early Career Environmental Health & Safety Consultant to work out of our Chelmsford, MA office. The Central New England offices include a multi-disciplinary environmental, health & safety consulting team including engineers, scientists, and health and safety professionals. WSP offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.
Your Impact
This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists and health & safety professionals in support of client driven EH&S programs and systems with the following roles/responsibilities:
- Environmental, health & safety (EH&S) compliance.
- Laboratory health & safety compliance.
- Developing/updating site specific EH&S compliance programs based on federal, state and local regulations, as well as compliance with client company directives. Examples of programs include Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Ergonomics, Emergency Preparedness, Chemical Hygiene, Biological Safety, Fire Prevention, Hazard Assessment, Lockout/Tagout, Waste Management, Contingency Planning, Confined Space Entry, etc.
- The ability to implement/execute EH&S programs at client facilities serving as an EH&S staff member.
- Conducting routine EH&S audits/inspections, and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Assisting with EH&S management systems development, including drafting of standard operating procedures, guidance documents, and facility signage.
- Assisting with the management of hazardous waste, satellite area inspections, and training.
- Implementing site specific EH&S programs and conducting training, including but not limited to Hazard Communication, PPE, Bloodborne Pathogens, Biosafety, Respiratory Protection, etc.
- Assisting with industrial hygiene related projects, including personal air sampling, noise, indoor air quality assessment, surface wipe sampling, qualitative assessments, etc.
- Being motivated, outgoing, and able to interact with employees of different backgrounds and within various industry settings.
- Conducting job safety analyses for jobs/tasks performed within various industry settings.
- Conducting incident investigations for clients following incidents occurring at client sites.
- Responding to local alarms to assess conditions for safety (i.e. Oxygen alarms).
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health & safety or related field.
- 0 to 1 year of related job experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, as well as knowledge of EPA, MADEP, DOT, MADPH, MADPS, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives, desire to become involved with and possibly lead small working groups.
- Demonstrated task management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks.
- Self-starter and fast learner.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Ability for daily travel to a project site in Framingham, MA to work as part of an on-site EH&S team.
- Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client or team needs.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, if required.
- Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA HAZWOPER Training.
- RCRA / DOT Training.
- Life Science sector experience.
- Good working knowledge of chemical and biological safety.
- Professional certification in EH&S (ASP, CSP, OHST or similar) or the ambition to obtain such certification.
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific science discipline.
