Job Description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Columbia, MD office. Be involved in projects with our Property and Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Tasks may include providing local technical assistance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, and construction support for transmission and distribution substations, power systems, renewable energy, and protection and control systems across various contexts.

Your Impact
  • Assist with data collection and analysis relating to substation components, equipment specifications, design reviews, and standards compliance.
  • Support the design of electrical systems including single line diagrams, substation layouts, grounding, and lightning protection.
  • Perform routine engineering functions and provide technical assistance on design requirements, equipment sizing, and safety considerations.
  • Verify site characteristics and assist with engineering, testing, and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for various system parameters under supervision.
  • Generate accurate documentation and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Complete training and adhere to company policies and ethical standards.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of electrical design engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, multitasking, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and software tools.
  • Familiarity with design software such as CADD, Aspen, CAPE, AutoCADD electrical.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.
  • Flexibility to work beyond typical hours and travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • December 2024/May 2025 graduates.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Relevant internship experience.
  • Participation in professional organizations.
Compensation and Benefits

Includes medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement benefits. Salary range: $59,200 - $88,800, based on experience and location.
