WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer (Generation) to join the Power & Energy team in Overland Park, KS. The role involves contributing to site layout, grading, and stormwater design across US and international projects.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with civil construction laws, codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site layout, grading, and storm water management designs.
  • Perform earthwork and erosion control calculations.
  • Conduct hydrology and hydraulic calculations for stormwater systems.
  • Interface with permitting agencies for US/international projects.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and health and safety policies.
  • Travel may be required depending on project needs.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Civil Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team in Overland Park, KS. Your Impact


  • Develop site layout, grading, storm water management, vehicular circulation, underground utilities, retaining walls, erosion control, and wastewater management design

  • Earthwork and Erosion Control Calculations to avoid unnecessary environmental impact and cost

  • Hydrology and Hydraulic Calculations and Studies to design stormwater management systems including detention and infiltration systems to prevent environmental impacts of flooding.

  • Interface with State and Local permitting agencies and construction entities for US and international projects

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

  • Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Consulting Engineering experience

  • Site development design experience: municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development and development of construction bid packages

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil3D
