The Opportunity
When you join Smurfit Westrock, you will be joining a team that creates sustainable paper and packaging solutions that help move the world forward. As an Industrial Maintenance Technician, you will support reliable plant operations in a multi-craft maintenance role with an emphasis on industrial electrical systems. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment while partnering with the maintenance and operations teams to support safety, equipment reliability, product quality, and customer service.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial mechanical and electrical equipment, including electrical control systems down to the component level.
- Maintain and repair power transmission systems, including gear drives, 3-phase motors, servo motors, hydraulic motors, pneumatic motors, conveyors, lifts, turntables, and chain drives.
- Read schematics and install, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot fluid transfer systems, including air and electric pumps, mechanical, pneumatic, and electric shutoffs, flow control sensors, pressure sensors, and temperature sensors.
- Complete planned maintenance activities and assigned inspections, lubrication, and repairs while following required PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and safety pre-checks.
- Use basic fabrication and precision measurement skills, including tape measures, calipers, dial indicators, drills, grinders, sanders, drill presses, and other power hand tools.
- Use basic computer and email skills to support maintenance activities and complete other duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor or other members of the leadership team.
- Contribute to plant goals for optimum quality and outstanding customer service through safe work practices, reliability, and effective teamwork.
What You Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General industrial maintenance experience in a multi-craft environment with an emphasis on electrical components.
- Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot industrial electrical control systems down to the component level.
- Working knowledge of power transmission, transfer, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fluid transfer systems.
- Basic fabrication skills and ability to use common measuring devices and power hand tools safely.
- Basic computer and email skills.
- Ability to work independently and work flexible hours and overtime as required.
- Ability and willingness to complete a NOCTI assessment as part of the pre-qualified candidate process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military training and/or technical school education.
- Five years of experience troubleshooting industrial electrical control systems down to the component level.
- Welding skills and knowledge of boiler principles and operations.
- Corrugated manufacturing experience.
