Job summary

Hearst Media Production Group in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Business Affairs Director to oversee FCC compliance for Educational/Informational TV, manage rights and clearances, and draft production documents. You will partner with leadership to protect HMPG brand and supervise day-to-day business affairs for development and production.

A law degree or equivalent experience in media/entertainment is required.

Qualifications

Precision in reviewing, annotating, and drafting agreements.
Familiarity with FCC, FTC, and COPPA (and related online privacy) regulations.
Familiarity with copyright and trademark laws and regulations.
Experience with legal/clearance review of episodic or long form content.
Experience with enterprise rights management systems.
Strong relationships with showrunners and sales executives.
Ability to make judgement calls on sensitive topics and manage deadlines.
Excellent organization and time management skills.

Responsibilities

Review, negotiate, and draft short-form business, production, and vendor documents with cross‑functional teams.
Ensure content compliance with FCC, FTC, COPPA and other regulations while preserving brand integrity.
Oversee Rights & Clearances and Standard & Practices in coordination with counsel.
Support content review for branded content and legal clearance execution.
Assist on rights management via the RightsLine database.
Coordinate sponsorships, schedules, content, and contractual obligations.
Collaborate with internal and external counsel as needed.
