Job summary

YMCA of the Roses is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor for the Bob Hoffman Dover YMCA in Dover, PA. This part-time role features flexible evening hours and a focus on leading safe, engaging fitness classes for diverse participants.

You will help strengthen community wellness through goal-oriented classes, build relationships with members and staff, and uphold safety standards while staying current with wellness trends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR PRO/AED/First Aid certification required before teaching the first class.
• Experience in group exercise classes (participant or instructor) 1–2 years.
• Complete Living our Cause within 1 month of hire.
• Complete the following within 3 months of hire: Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y; Foundations of Listen First; Principles of Member Health and Wellness; Group Exercise at the Y; Foundations of Group Exercise (ACE).

Responsibilities

• Lead safe, effective land or water wellness classes improving strength, flexibility, balance.
• Put health and well-being first, providing exercise modifications for safety and success.
• Build authentic relationships with class participants and YMCA staff.
• Available to regularly scheduled classes and substitute as needed.
• Keep up with wellness trends to support participants.
• Set up and maintain equipment; report unsafe conditions.
• Begin and end class on time.
• Keep accurate attendance records.
• Wear approved attire; YMCA shirt provided.
• Follow YMCA safety procedures; complete incident reports as necessary.
• Serve as a role model; attend staff meetings and certifications.
• Maintain certification by attending CEC classes and updating paperwork.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.
