Job summary

The Salvation Army Grand Rapids Kroc Center is seeking a Swim Instructor to provide lessons for all ages and abilities, design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans, and present proper techniques while maintaining classroom management.

Responsibilities include pool upkeep, equipment setup, ensuring safety, and documenting progress and attendance. This role emphasizes engaging instruction, professional conduct, and clear communication with the program manager.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old.
• 1 year experience teaching swim lessons or coaching swim team.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English; Spanish preferred.
• Experience working with the public.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons for all ages and abilities with structured lesson plans.
• Inspect and maintain pool and related areas.
• Assist with setup, cleanup and equipment; take inventory and report needs.
• Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and manage classes professionally.
• Provide individual and group feedback to help swimmers develop.
• Implement health safety measures for classes and ensure compliance.
• Complete lesson plans, reports and attendance records as needed.
• Attend quarterly instructor in-service training.
• Communicate class development and scheduling with the program manager.
