Job summary

Passaic Board of Education in Passaic, New Jersey is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide instructional support across classrooms. The role requires compliance with district and state standards, managing classroom environments, and delivering lessons per the district curriculum.

The position reports to school administrators. Starting date is To Be Determined, with non-tenurable terms and per diem compensation.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be 20 years of age or older.
• Maintain valid New Jersey Passaic County Substitute Certification.
• Completion of 30 semester-hour credits at an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, instructional content, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing every student a supportive and structured learning environment, based around high expectations for student learning and succes
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien stat

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction consistent with district programs of study, curriculum, and instructional guidelines.
• Implement the district’s philosophy of education and the State, district and school’s instructional goals and objectives.
• Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students through the creation and support of a positive learning environment.
• Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.
• Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
• Develop effective procedures for the operation and management of the classroom and for following routine school procedures.
• Establish and maintain appropriate expectations for student behavior in the classroom, school building and school grounds and exercises due care for the health, safety, and well–being of the students.
• Demonstrate fairness and consistency when applying rules and grading students.
• Evaluate and grade classwork, homework, assignments, and tests in a timely fashion, providing feedback to the student on performance.
• Accurately maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports within designated time limits.
