Job summary

Springfield Public Schools in Massachusetts seeks a qualified educator to join our team. You will meet and instruct assigned classes, plan curricula to meet student needs, and create a learning-friendly environment that supports district goals and student growth.

The role requires licensure in content areas and typically a Bachelor's degree with license; a Master's degree with content license is preferred and expected within 5 years.

Qualifications

  • Content-area licensure Teacher of Moderate Disability (PK-8) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license.
  • Master's Degree with appropriate content area license at high school level preferred and expected within 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Guides learning toward district curriculum goals with clear objectives for all lessons and projects.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Strives to implement district philosophy and performance expectations.
  • Assesses student progress and provides reports; communicates with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialist help as required.
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Adheres to SPS code of conduct; develops classroom rules.
  • Plans and supervises paraprofessional assignments and evaluations.
  • Maintains ongoing professional growth per district requirements.
  • Participates in contractually approved teacher evaluation process.
  • Attends meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making.
  • Contributes to budget, facilities, curriculum decisions and staff well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
