Job summary

Spencer County Public Schools seeks a Substitute School Nurse - Health Care Professional to support nursing staff in administering first aid, conducting health screenings, and maintaining accurate student medical records. The role emphasizes excellent customer service to students, parents, and staff.

You will oversee referrals, manage medications under district guidelines, and help coordinate health services across the district. Prior MA or CNA certification and one year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Current certificate or license as a Medical Assistant or CNA with one year of experience.
• Ability to administer first aid, CPR and nursing practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of health screening techniques and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Administer first aid or nursing care for accidents; provide CPR as needed.
• Conduct height, weight, vision, hearing, scoliosis and other health screenings.
• Refer students to appropriate personnel and follow up as necessary.
• Maintain health records in student information system; update immunizations.
• Dispense and retain medications per physician instructions and district guidelines.
• Communicate with health agencies and coordinate student needs such as glasses or hearing aids.
• Assist with training for students, parents and school staff on health issues.
• Maintain stock of first aid supplies and ensure equipment is in working condition.
• Attend workshops and conferences to maintain professional competence.
