Job summary

University Hospitals in Ohio seeks a Physical Therapist Assistant to support licensed physical therapists in outpatient settings. You will help patients regain movement and manage pain under supervision, guiding exercises and program components.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed physical therapists to help people regain range of movement and control pain.
  • Under direction, support patients who have lost motor function due to accidents, illness, or age.
  • Provide physical therapy services only under supervision of a licensed therapist.
  • Instruct, motivate, safeguard, and assist patients during exercises or functional activities.
  • Observe progress and report results to the physical therapist in person or via notes.
  • Discuss patient information with therapy staff for planning and coordinating treatment.
  • Administer manual therapies, therapeutic massage, aquatic therapy, or modalities such as ultrasound.
  • Measure range of motion, body part function, or vital signs to assess treatment effects.
  • Communicate with caregivers/family about treatment plans and activities.
  • Transport patients between treatment areas and assist with positioning and transfers.
  • Secure patients into therapy equipment and guide use of braces or assistive devices.
  • Assist patients dressing and undressing or applying supportive devices.
  • Maintain clean work areas and store equipment after treatment.
  • Monitor equipment operation and document usage and treatments.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed, including inventory and communications.
  • Prepare treatment areas and equipment for use by therapists.
  • Contribute to care components and interventions in a competent manner.
  • Identify patient needs with empathy and adjust care to individual differences.
  • Suggest options or modifications to treatments to support progress and safety.
  • Apply current research to restore function and prevent injury.
  • Complete documentation to support delivery of therapy services.
  • Collect data and report on patient medical records as required.
  • Participate in status judgments and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
  • Maintain ongoing competence and pursue learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with care team to provide patient-centered care and quality outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with PHI policies.
