Job summary

WGME/WPFO is seeking an aggressive, energetic News Assignment Editor to manage breaking news and enterprise story ideas in a fast-paced environment. You will coordinate crews, assign coverage, and post compelling content to our website and social channels.

The role requires at least 1 year on an assignment desk, strong ethics, clear communication, and the ability to work under pressure. Journalism degree preferred and familiarity with FB/Twitter is a plus.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of assignment desk experience
Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy
Ability to communicate effectively
Basic computer knowledge/word processing skills
General knowledge and interest in local, national and world news
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter and emerging social media platforms
Bachelor’s degree with a major in journalism is also preferred

Responsibilities

Assign and track news crews to beat assignments and breaking events.
Identify and develop daily content ideas for on-air and online.
Write and post content to station website and social media platforms.
Demonstrate compelling and accurate writing for multiple audiences.
Listen to scanners, react to breaking news, and monitor sources and social feeds.
Develop and maintain contacts and sources to enterprise story ideas.
Respond quickly to developing news and coordinate coverage.
Assist in the efficient operations of the assignment desk.
