Job summary

WGME/WPFO in Portland, ME, is seeking a full-time News Assignment Editor to lead coverage, assign crews, and generate story ideas under pressure.

You will write and post content to the station website and social platforms, maintain contacts, and react decisively to breaking news while coordinating with crews.

The role requires at least one year on an assignment desk, a journalism degree, and the ability to work calmly in a fast-paced newsroom.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of assignment desk experience.
  • Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer knowledge/word processing skills.
  • General knowledge and interest in local, national and world news.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter and emerging social media platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in journalism is also preferred.
