Job summary

School of Rock in San Jose, CA, is seeking a Music Instructor to lead private lessons and ensemble activities across keys, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. You will design engaging lesson plans and deliver a dynamic student experience that builds music and life skills.

The role emphasizes teaching quality, proactive parent updates, and active participation in rehearsals, with a flexible schedule and opportunities to contribute to performances.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching and/or performing music professionally.
• Knowledge of music theory.
• Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people.
• Strong organizational skills and customer relations skills.
• Resourceful and good problem-solver.
• Works well under pressure.
• Ideal candidate is a working musician who also has formal music school training.
• Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor.
• Good judgment a must.
• Passion for teaching.

Responsibilities

• Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows.
• Ensure students are learning fundamentals of music, not just songs.
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans.
• Communicate regularly with parents on progress after lessons.
• Interact with parents and students by being visible and accessible in the school.
• Pitch in during canceled lessons and assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school.
