Job summary

The Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA in South Sioux City, Nebraska, is seeking a Part-Time Group Exercise Instructor to lead diverse, engaging group fitness classes with a focus on safety and inclusion.

You will guide participants of all fitness levels, demonstrate proper technique, provide encouragement, and help foster community, motivation, and social connection.

Reports to the Director of Healthy Living and participates in required trainings and wellness events.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Nationally recognized group exercise certification or YMCA Group Exercise.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Strong communication and motivational skills.
• Experience leading group exercise classes preferred.
• ADA compliance understanding.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, safe group exercise classes for a variety of ages and ability levels.
• Modify and adapt instruction to support participants' goals, needs, and limitations.
• Build authentic relationships that foster community, motivation, and trust.
• Provide clear guidance on form, technique, and proper equipment use.
• Stay current on fitness trends, best practices, and YMCA expectations.
• Record class attendance and communicate regularly with the Wellness team.
• Keep spaces clean and organized; report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
• Uphold YMCA policies and represent the organization with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
• Attend required trainings and actively contribute to staff meetings or wellness events.
• Model YMCA core values and use the Y-Voice: Welcoming, Hopeful. Determined, Genuine, and Nurturing.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.
