Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a group exercise instructor to lead safe, engaging classes and support program growth. The role includes building member relationships, assisting with events, and promoting healthy lifestyles while adhering to safety and risk policies.

Requirements include 18+ years old, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and a national certification in the taught modality. Flexibility to substitute teach and participate in staff activities is expected.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must hold current CPR/AED/First Aid certification ( Adult and Pediatric).
• Must maintain nationally recognized certification for the class being taught.
• Must be willing to teach a minimum of one regular scheduled group exercise class per week.
• Instructors teaching specialty classes must hold current certification in the specialty.
• Excellent human relations and communication skills; team player and willing to substitute teach.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective workouts for scheduled class formats.
• Supervise participants and guide through warm-up, cardio, strength, cool-down, and stretch.
• Maintain a safe, clean workout area and properly store equipment.
• Arrive early to prepare and teach the class; start and finish on time.
• Demonstrate modifications and variations to accommodate participants.
• Report equipment issues and follow emergency procedures as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and events; promote member relations and program growth.
• Adhere to boundaries with participants and complete abuse risk management training.
