Job summary

UIC Construction is seeking a General Laborer to support various physical tasks at construction sites. Responsibilities include operating hand and power tools, preparing job sites, digging trenches, setting braces, building scaffolding, and assisting with demolition and cleanup. May support other trades as needed.

Minimum one year of general labor experience required; candidates should be proficient with hand tools, understand construction materials, and maintain safety practices on site.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general labor experience.
• Proficient with hand and small power tools.
• Familiar with construction materials, methods, and tools.
• Understanding of machines and basic repairs.
• Ability to monitor gauges and indicators for proper function.
• Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Able to coordinate multiple limb movements for precise tasks.
• Capable of physically demanding work including lifting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
• Skilled at inspecting equipment and materials for defects.
• Knowledge of safety practices to support project completion.

Responsibilities

• Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards.
• Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, or other temporary structures.
• Load or identify materials and tools; distribute them to locations.
• Measure or record openings and distances to layout work areas.
• Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to power tools and equipment.
• Mix, pour, or spread concrete using portable cement mixers.
• Control traffic near work zones.
• Dig trenches or backfill excavations to grade specifications.
